IIT-B placement record soared upto 3% and offered highest Rs 80 Lakh salary package.

Besides, the news of economic downturn and sluggish placements in leading management and technology institutes of the country, Indian Institute of Bombay has noticed a marginal rise of 3% in overall placement. This year almost 3% more students get placed as compared to last year. Students have another reason to smile is rise in the number of international offers and MNCs, which is almost 40% from 64 to 80.

The institute recently published a report of placements of its first phase. Avijit Chatterjee, professor in-charge of placements informed that many new companies visited the campus to recruit the students. He said, "LinkedIn, Twitter and Michelin were some major global firms that came. There is an upward trend in the number of students placed in all courses."

According to the published data nearly 72% students from B.Tech course have been placed in first phase, but the number was 65% last year. Whereas, students in dual degree programme are preferred pick with 78%. In this placement session 240 companies visited campus in first phase for recruiting students.

This year the highest pay package offered was $ 150,000 form Samsung US/Korea to Sriram Bhargav, a computer science student. The reporter informed, "Over 84 students have been recruited by multinational companies for their global requirements. The continued focus on firms as per the placement's office 'Look East' policy saw the creation of several job opportunities with highly rated organizations"

Chatterjee, said the second phase of placements has already started, but it is going with slow pace. He said, "This phase is generally slow as we have interviews scheduled only after classes and during weekends. The second phase, which will go on till June,"
